DigiPen Institute of Technology

DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond is a private university focused entirely on computer science, game design, and related fields. It occupies a modern campus in the Overlake neighborhood and has been producing game developers and engineers for major studios since before game development was an established academic discipline.

The institute hosts occasional public events, game showcases, and talks. The annual student game showcase is open to the public and displays projects ranging from mobile apps to polished console-style titles. Given Redmond's identity as a tech hub, DigiPen fits naturally into the local culture — many graduates end up working at companies nearby, or at the Microsoft campus a few kilometres south.

A story
DigiPen is one of the first and most respected game-development universities in the world, founded in 1988 when video game education barely existed as a field. Several student projects made here went on to be licensed by major publishers, and at least one DigiPen student project was bought by Nintendo and released commercially — an unusual route from thesis project to retail product.
