Downtown Redmond Link Light Rail Station

The Downtown Redmond Station opened in 2024 as the terminus of Sound Transit's 2 Line, the light rail extension that finally connects Redmond directly to Bellevue, Mercer Island, and Seattle. The station is adjacent to Redmond Town Center and effectively becomes the gateway to downtown Redmond for visitors arriving from the rest of the Seattle metro area.

The station is in an elevated design with good views over the Town Center area. For travellers, it removes the need for a car to reach Redmond from Seattle — the journey takes around 45 minutes from downtown Seattle, with transfers possible at Bellevue. The adjacent Marymoor Village Station, a short distance south, serves the park end of the city. Both stations are served by the same 2 Line and operate on the same fare system as the broader Link light rail network.

A story
The Downtown Redmond Station opened in May 2024 as the eastern terminus of the 2 Line, extending light rail from Bellevue across the Eastside to Redmond. The station's opening ended a long period in which Redmond, despite being home to Microsoft and some of the highest-earning workers in the Seattle region, had no direct rail link to the city. The extension was the most expensive per-mile segment of the region's light rail buildout, reflecting the cost of building through dense suburban development.
