Stevenson

Columbia River Gorge town on Washington's quieter bank, with river views, trails, and gorge history.

Stevenson sits on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge, across the water from Cascade Locks and the busy Oregon corridor. It is a small town, but it has a real reason to exist in a travel guide: river views, gorge history, and quick access to some of the best short hikes on the north bank.

The town itself is quiet, with the Columbia Gorge Museum as the main cultural stop. The bigger reward is the setting. Beacon Rock, the Bridge of the Gods, Dog Mountain, and the Wind River country are all close enough to make Stevenson a practical base for a spare day in the Gorge.

This is not a destination for urban energy. Come if you want the Washington side of the Gorge, fewer crowds than the Oregon highway, and a town where you can finish a hike with the river still in sight.
