Adams Morgan is Washington's most ethnically mixed and most genuinely bohemian neighbourhood, centred on the intersection of 18th Street and Columbia Road NW. It has been the centre of Washington's Ethiopian community for decades — the blocks around 18th Street have more Ethiopian restaurants than any comparable area in the country — and also has Salvadoran, Peruvian, and various other Latin American restaurants mixed in.
The neighbourhood has become considerably more expensive and polished since its scruffier days in the 1980s and 1990s, but it still feels more alive and more mixed than most of DC's increasingly uniform bar districts. The Madam's Organ bar (2461 18th Street NW) has been a neighbourhood fixture for blues and live music. Columbia Road on Sunday mornings runs one of DC's better farmers markets.
