Washington's bar scene is concentrated in a handful of neighbourhoods. Adams Morgan's 18th Street strip is the most reliably active on weekends. Dupont Circle has bars ranging from the neighbourhood standby Fox and Hounds to more polished cocktail bars on P Street. U Street Corridor — historically significant as the centre of DC's Black music scene — has a mix of live music venues and craft beer bars that have transformed since the neighbourhood's renovation in the 1990s.
Georgetown's M Street and Wisconsin Avenue have bars that skew toward Georgetown University students and young professionals. Capitol Hill's Pennsylvania Avenue SE has a more neighbourhood feel — quieter, with a regular clientele of Hill staffers and local residents. Kramerbooks in Dupont Circle stays open late and functions as much as a bar as a bookshop after 10pm.
For live music, the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) is the city's premier mid-size venue. The Kennedy Center has classical, jazz, and popular music in multiple halls.
