Decatur House stands on Lafayette Square, just across from the White House. Benjamin Henry Latrobe designed it for naval hero Stephen Decatur in 1818, and later residents included Henry Clay, Martin Van Buren, and Judah P. Benjamin.
The house is now a museum, with good Federal-era architecture and a front-row view of Washington's political history.
