Fort Stanton Overlook marks the site of one of the Civil War forts built to defend Washington, D.C. from Confederate attack. Little of the fort survives beyond a historic marker, but the stop is still worthwhile for the broad view over the city and the Anacostia area. It is a short, quiet history-and-viewpoint detour rather than a museum-style visit.
