Gallaudet University is the world's leading university for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, and its campus is a National Historic Landmark District. The main draw for visitors is the architecture: Chapel Hall and several other buildings use a fanciful High Gothic style that feels quite different from Washington's usual marble classicism.
Guided and self-guided campus tours are available. Some guided tours are given in American Sign Language unless arranged in advance, which is part of what makes the visit distinctive rather than just another campus walk.
