Tamarack Marketplace is a polished but useful version of the West Virginia roadside stop. The building gathers crafts, fine art, regional foods, books, music, and rotating demonstrations under one roof, so it is an easy place to see what the state makes rather than just what the interstate sells.
It is most satisfying as a short stop after the coal mine or Grandview. Look for pottery, glass, woodwork, quilts, and food products from around the state; even if you do not buy anything, it gives a quick cross-section of Appalachian craft culture.
