A modern art museum housed in a converted 1920s power-station building two blocks off the river. The Nic, as everyone calls it, focuses on contemporary regional artists with rotating shows in five gallery spaces. The permanent collection covers 20th-century western American art at a level serious enough to surprise out-of-state visitors.
The Discovery Center upstairs is one of the better hands-on art spaces for kids in the region — a working pottery wheel, costume area, and changing themed installations. Inexpensive admission, closed Mondays.
