The North Platte River anchors the city — fly fishing in the cool months, paddling and trail running in summer. Above town, Casper Mountain offers cross-country skiing in winter and shaded ridge walks in summer. Downtown holds a small but interesting set of historic buildings, and the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center on the north edge of town is the headline museum.
