Cheyenne Botanic Gardens

A large conservatory and 9-acre outdoor garden in Lions Park, on the northwest side of town. The Grand Conservatory — a 14,000-square-foot glass house heated almost entirely by passive solar gain — was the first of its kind in the country when it opened in 1976. The outdoor gardens include a labyrinth, a Bedont Rose Garden with a teakwood swing, a Cactus and Succulent Garden, and the Paul Smith Children's Village.

Run by a partnership of city horticulture staff and a long-running volunteer programme that employs at-risk youth and seniors. The conservatory is open year-round and is a particularly welcome refuge on bitter Wyoming winter days. Free; donations welcome.
