Cheyenne is small but earns its keep. A compact downtown gathered around the Wyoming State Capitol, a serious historic-railroad museum at the old Union Pacific depot, the Frontier Days Old West Museum on the rodeo grounds, and a surprisingly fine botanic garden — that is the core. If you can time a visit for the last full week of July, Frontier Days itself is one of the great American rodeos and worth the trip on its own.
