Fremont Lake is a large glacial lake about five miles north of Pinedale, set against the backdrop of the Wind River Range. At over 190 metres deep, it is one of the deepest natural lakes in Wyoming, with exceptionally clear water fed by glaciers and snowmelt from the mountains above. The lake is 18 kilometres long, offering expansive views of the peaks.
The lake is popular for boating, fishing (lake trout and mackinaw are the main catches), and kayaking. A campground and boat ramp are maintained by the Forest Service at the southern end. The road continues up past the lake into the Bridger-Teton National Forest, where trails lead into the Wind River Range backcountry.
