The North Platte through the Saratoga valley is a Gold Medal fishery — a designation for stretches of exceptional trout water. Brown and rainbow trout are plentiful, and bald eagles are common along the banks, often fishing the same pools you are working. The river runs clear and cold out of the mountains.
Several outfitters in town offer guided half-day and full-day float trips, gear rental, and local knowledge about which sections are producing. The best fishing is typically late summer and autumn when water temperatures settle. Wading the river on your own is straightforward; there is good public access at several points.
