Snowy Range Road

Highway 130 over the Snowy Range is one of Wyoming's most spectacular drives. The road climbs from the high sage desert around Saratoga into alpine terrain above 10,000 feet, passing peaks that top 12,000 feet, open meadows, wildflower fields, and a string of mountain lakes. Lake Marie and several trailheads sit directly alongside the road.

The drive from Saratoga to Laramie on the other side takes roughly 90 minutes and covers country that feels genuinely remote. The road is only open from around Memorial Day to Labor Day — snow closes it for the rest of the year. If you are in Saratoga in summer, driving at least part of the way up is not optional.
