Laguna Capri

Laguna Capri is a high lake on the slopes above the Rio Fitz Roy valley, offering one of the best views of the Fitz Roy massif from a relatively accessible point. The hike is shorter than the Laguna de los Tres trail — about 11 km return with 400 metres of elevation gain — and can realistically be done in 4–5 hours. Many people combine it with the Laguna de los Tres in a single long day, since both trails share the same first section from El Chaltén.

The viewpoint above the lake is excellent even in partial cloud, and the smaller crowds compared to the main Fitz Roy viewpoint make it feel more remote. Camping is permitted here (with a permit), and the sunrise on Fitz Roy seen from a tent on the lakeshore is one of those experiences people talk about for years. If you can carry the gear and are acclimatised enough, it's worth planning.
