El Chaltén is a hiking village. Every major attraction here is a trail — a beautiful, challenging, and weather-dependent trail. The trails are free, self-guided, and well-marked with paint blazes and cairns. The national park entrance formalities (signing in, getting a briefing) are handled at the ranger station near the edge of town.
