Don Chiquino

Hand-rolled pasta and Patagonian lamb in a slightly eccentric Esquel landmark

The pasta restaurant in Esquel, run by an Italian-Argentine chef who plays magic tricks for the children, rolls his own pasta, and has filled the dining room with collected oddities — old radios, hanging lamps, a stuffed deer or two. The menu changes but the lamb-and-mint ravioli, the trout in butter, and the hand-cut tagliatelle with mushroom sauce are usually on it.

Bookings essential in summer; the place is small and locals come too. Mains around US$15–20 (early 2020s prices). Don Chiquino himself usually does the rounds of the tables and chats; it is, by any measure, the most distinctive dining experience in Esquel.
