Rio Gallegos is mostly a stopover, but a half-day is enough to see what the town has. The central square, the regional museums, and the wind-swept estuary are all walkable from the centre. With a rental car you can push out to the Cabo Vírgenes penguin colony or the salt pans south of town — both worth the drive if you have a free day.
