Samaipata is 120 km west of Santa Cruz de la Sierra along the old Cochabamba highway (Route 7). Shared taxis leave from the Bus Terminal in Santa Cruz throughout the day and take around two hours. Public buses also run this route and cost less but take longer. The road climbs steadily from the lowland heat of Santa Cruz into cooler Andean foothills, and the scenery improves significantly in the last 30 km before town.
From Cochabamba, the road descends through increasingly dramatic cloud forest scenery. It's a longer journey (around 4–5 hours) but a beautiful one.
There is no regular air service to Samaipata. Samaipata Florida Airport is a small strip used for charters only.
