This is the surfer's beach. A right-hand break runs off the rocks at the south end, and you will usually find a dozen or so locals out on the water at first light. The waves are reasonably forgiving for intermediate surfers; the beach itself is small and intimate, with a backdrop of coconut palms and a single line of barracas.
For non-surfers, the beach is a perfectly good place to swim — the current is manageable except on the biggest days — and to watch a steady flow of board-carrying traffic moving in and out of the surf shops on the path back to town. Beginner surf schools operate from here and from the next beach north.
