Serra do Conduru State Park

The Serra do Conduru is one of the last large stretches of intact Atlantic Forest in southern Bahia, protecting about 7,500 hectares between Itacaré and the BR-101. It is a major refuge for the golden-headed lion tamarin, found only in this part of Bahia, and home to a long list of forest birds, butterflies, and orchids.

Several short trails leave from the park headquarters, with guided walks bookable through tour operators in Itacaré or Ilhéus. The forest is dense, humid, and best visited in the dry season. Bring repellent, water, and shoes that will not slip on wet leaves. A local guide is worth the cost for the birding alone.
