Big Boys is one of the most famous radiolas (sound systems) in São Luís — a mobile sound system operation that sets up in outdoor locations around the city for weekend dances. When Big Boys is playing, the event draws thousands of people to a field, a parking lot, or a neighbourhood street that temporarily becomes the best reggae party in Brazil.
Check the city's social media and local posters for upcoming Big Boys events — they don't always advertise far in advance. Getting there usually requires a taxi. Bring cash, wear comfortable shoes, and don't expect the evening to end before 4am. This is São Luís at its most exuberant and most itself.
