Jundiaí is more than a middle city between São Paulo and Campinas. Its older identity is agricultural: fruit farms, Italian immigrant families, vineyards and rural restaurants on the edge of the city. Its wilder identity is the Serra do Japi, a protected Atlantic Forest mountain range that gives Jundiaí a green backdrop unusual for an industrial city.
The urban centre has enough to fill a slow afternoon. Nossa Senhora do Desterro Cathedral anchors the old town, while Theatro Polytheama keeps a bit of early 20th-century civic pride alive. The railway station and rail heritage matter too: Jundiaí grew with the 19th-century lines that carried coffee, workers and immigrants through São Paulo state.
The best reason to stay a full day is the contrast. You can start with the Botanical Garden, head into the centre, then spend the afternoon on the rural wine and fruit roads or near the Serra do Japi. It is not a showpiece city, but it has a clear local flavour.
