Reserva Natural Vale is one of Linhares' best reasons to stop. The reserve protects a large remnant of tabuleiro Atlantic Forest, a lowland forest type that has vanished from much of Brazil's coast. For travelers, it offers a rare chance to walk under tall native forest without arranging an expedition.
The visitor experience is gentle rather than rugged: marked trails, environmental displays, picnic areas, and good birdwatching possibilities. It is on BR-101 at km 122, north of town, so it is practical if you have your own transport or can arrange a driver to wait.
