Vila Velha is spread out along the coast and does not have a metro system. The main options are city buses, taxis, and app-based services (Uber and 99 both operate here). Local buses connect the main beach districts to the city centre and to Vitória, but routes and frequencies can be confusing for visitors.
The Terceira Ponte (Third Bridge) and the Penha Channel ferry service connect Vila Velha directly to Vitória. Taxis between the two cities are a common, if not cheap, way to move between them. The ferry is slower but pleasant on a good day.
Cycling is feasible along the coastal promenade and on some dedicated bike lanes, but the city is not comprehensively cycle-friendly. For the main tourist areas — Prainha, the Convento da Penha, Praia da Costa — walking between points is possible if you are comfortable with heat and distance.
