Centreventos Cau Hansen

The Centreventos Cau Hansen is Joinville's main event venue and the home of the Festival de Dança every July. Outside the festival, it hosts ballet and contemporary dance throughout the year, large-scale concerts, and the occasional theatre production. The 4,000-seat main hall is one of the largest performance spaces in southern Brazil.

If you are not in town for the festival, check the regular calendar — there is usually something on at least one weekend a month.

The Festival de Dança de Joinville is, by audience and number of dancers, the largest dance festival in the world — the Guinness Book of Records made it official in 2005. For ten days every July, more than 5,000 dancers from across the country and the world fill every venue in town. The city goes into a kind of choreographed delirium.
