Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral

The Catedral Metropolitana do Sagrado Coração de Jesus is Londrina's most prominent landmark: a large modernist structure in the city centre with a distinctive tall bell tower visible from much of the downtown area. The current building was completed in 1972, replacing an earlier structure, and seats several thousand people.

The interior is spacious and relatively austere, with stained glass providing the main colour. It sits on the Praça Rocha Pombo, the central square of the original planned city, and is surrounded by the main commercial streets. Worth a brief visit as a piece of post-war Brazilian religious architecture, and as a focal point for understanding the city's layout.
