Carl Weege Immigrant House Museum

The Carl Weege Immigrant House Museum preserves the original home of one of Pomerode's founding settlers, built in the characteristic enxaimel style — the half-timbered construction technique the German immigrants brought from Pomerania and adapted to the tropical forest timber they found in the Itajaí Valley.

The interior has been restored with period furniture, kitchen equipment, and personal effects that give a vivid sense of 19th-century frontier life in southern Brazil. The contrast between the northern European domestic aesthetic and the lush subtropical landscape outside is striking. The museum is small and can be visited in under an hour, but it is one of the best introductions to what the early immigrant experience actually looked like.

A story
Carl Weege was among the first settlers of what would become Pomerode, arriving in the 1860s. His house has been preserved largely as he left it, making it one of the most intact examples of early German immigrant domestic life in Brazil.
