The Museu Pomerano is the principal museum in Pomerode, covering the history of German immigration to Santa Catarina from the mid-19th century onwards. The collection includes tools, furniture, clothing, photographs, and documents brought by settlers from the Pomerania region of northern Germany and Poland, much of it donated by local families.
The exhibition traces the journey from Europe to the Itajaí Valley, the conditions the early settlers faced in clearing the Atlantic Forest, and the gradual development of the community into what became one of the most densely German-speaking towns in South America. The museum also covers the suppression of the German language during the Second World War — when Brazil sided with the Allies and banned public use of German — and the language's subsequent revival. Captions are in Portuguese and German.
