Cathedral of Sant'Ana

The Cathedral of Sant'Ana is Ponta Grossa's most recognisable landmark, a neo-Gothic church completed in the early 20th century that rises above the city's central Praça Marechal Floriano Peixoto. The twin towers are visible from much of the downtown area and remain a useful orientation point.

The interior is relatively plain by Brazilian cathedral standards — Ponta Grossa never generated the grand baroque wealth of colonial centres further north — but the stained glass and the proportions of the nave are handsome enough. The square in front is the city's main public space and usually has activity throughout the day: vendors, commuters, and the occasional political demonstration.
