Museu das Missões

Small museum beside the ruins with Brazil's strongest collection of mission-era sacred sculpture.

The Museu das Missões sits beside the archaeological site in a low building designed by Lúcio Costa. Its carved saints, bells, and fragments from the missions make the ruins easier to read, especially if you have only a short time in town. The collection is compact, but it gives faces and craft to a site that can otherwise feel all stone and plan.
