The ruins of São Miguel Arcanjo are the reason to come. The church facade still stands in red sandstone, with the old square and foundations around it showing the scale of the 18th-century mission town. It is a powerful place because the ruin is both grand and exposed: enough survives to understand the ambition, and enough is missing to feel the break in the story.
