MAM Chiloé is Castro's modern-art surprise, set in the municipal park above town rather than in the waterfront centre. Its exhibitions change, but the point is the setting as much as the collection: contemporary Chilean art shown on an island better known for wooden churches and fishing houses.
Check current opening before making the climb or taking a colectivo. It is most worthwhile when exhibitions are running.
