A smaller colonial church on the eastern side of the historic centre, built by the Augustinians in the 17th century and rebuilt after several earthquakes. The current facade dates from a 1755 restoration that gave the church its distinctive baroque pediment.
Worth a brief stop as part of the loop through the colonial-era churches that dot the old quarter — Mercedes, San Francisco, Santo Domingo, San Agustín — none of which take long, all of which together give a sense of how seriously La Serena was built as an outpost of Spanish church power.
