Mercado Municipal

Osorno's covered municipal market is a good place to eat lunch and see what the surrounding agricultural region actually produces. The market stalls sell local dairy products (Osorno is one of the main dairy regions in Chile), fresh fish from the coast, and cuts of the beef and lamb that make the region economically significant. The food stalls on the upper level serve cheap set lunches — cazuela (a meat and vegetable broth), humitas (steamed corn parcels), and the kind of plain, solid cooking that feeds working people.

The building itself is early 20th century, with a corrugated iron roof and a central hall that gets busy on market days. It is not a tourist attraction in the conventional sense but worth visiting for the produce and the lunch options.
