Comapa is the volume operator in Magallanes and the one whose price list is worth reading before anyone else's, because they publish it. The catamaran to Isla Magdalena is 102,000 pesos for five hours; the fast boat that adds a circuit of Isla Marta is 112,000. Fuerte Bulnes, the reconstructed 1843 fort on the Strait, is 50,000 for a half day and is the cheapest good thing to do from town.
They are also the easiest way to get to the king penguins — not the Magdalena colony but the small, fiercely protected group at Bahía Inútil on Tierra del Fuego, a fifteen-hour day for 100,000 pesos. And they sell the Patagonian set pieces from both sides of the border: Torres del Paine in a day for 68,000, the Base Torres trek for 92,000, Perito Moreno in Argentina for 165,000, the Serrano and Balmaceda glaciers by boat for 180,000.
