Museo Interactivo Mirador (MIM)

The Museo Interactivo Mirador is Chile's national science and technology museum, in the La Granja commune south of the centre. It is one of the largest interactive science museums in Latin America, with permanent exhibitions on physics, biology, mathematics, and the environment designed around hands-on experiments and demonstrations. It is primarily aimed at children and school groups, but adults who don't mind being surrounded by enthusiastic 10-year-olds will find the exhibits genuinely engaging.

The museum is a worthwhile destination if you are in Santiago with children, or if you have an interest in science communication. The new pavilion on Chilean biodiversity is particularly good. Getting there requires a taxi or bus from the city centre — it is too far south to walk from any metro station. Open Tuesday to Sunday.
