Santiago has excellent shopping in the mall format (Parque Arauco and Alto Las Condes in the east, Mall Plaza Vespucio in the south) and more interesting options in the city's barrios. For crafts and souvenirs, the best option is the Patio Bellavista market complex in Barrio Bellavista, which has consistent quality across its vendor stalls.
Artesanías de Chile, a government-backed crafts retailer, has a shop near La Moneda with quality-controlled handicrafts from across the country: Mapuche basketry, Chiloé wool products, copper objects from Atacama, and lapis lazuli jewellery (Chile has some of the world's largest deposits). For wine, the major supermarket chains (Jumbo, Unimarc) have excellent and well-priced selections.
