Parque Bicentenario in Vitacura is Santiago's most polished urban park — a long, landscaped green corridor running along the Mapocho River with flamingo lagoons, cycling paths, a children's farm, and some of the city's best jogging routes. It was created for Chile's 2010 bicentenary and has been enthusiastically adopted by the fitness-conscious residents of the wealthy northeastern suburbs.
The park is best used on weekday mornings when it is less crowded, or weekend evenings for a stroll along the river. The flamingo lagoons (pink flamingos in an urban park is always a slightly surreal experience) are at the southern end. The Parque Arauco shopping mall is nearby if you need to combine the visit with practical errands.
