Getting There

From Santiago

Valparaíso is 120 kilometres west of Santiago and is easily reached as a day trip or short stay. The fastest option is by bus: Turbus and Pullman Bus both run frequent services from Santiago's Alameda bus terminal to Valparaíso's bus terminal on Pedro Montt, taking about 1 hour 40 minutes. Services run throughout the day.

There is also a suburban rail service — the Metrotrén — which connects Santiago's Alameda station to Valparaíso, stopping at Viña del Mar. The journey takes about 1 hour 50 minutes and is more scenic but less frequent than the buses.

Arriving in Valparaíso

The bus terminal is in the flat city centre, close to the port. Taxis and colectivos (shared taxis) connect the terminal to the hills. The flat city is compact and walkable, but the hillside barrios require either the funicular elevators, steep stairs, or taxis to access.
