Bahia Cocal Trail

The island's signature walk crosses from the main settlement on the east coast to Bahia Cocal, a sweep of grey-sand beach on the west. The trail takes a full day, climbing through dense rainforest that has been isolated from the mainland for thousands of years. Ferns, mosses, and strangler figs crowd the path; the birdlife is constant; poison dart frogs flash across the roots. At the end, the forest opens onto the beach and a clear view of Gorgonilla, the small island sitting just offshore.

The return is the same trail in reverse, which feels entirely different — the light shifts, and a hike you navigated by landmarks becomes a different walk altogether.

Boots are not optional. The trails are wet year-round, and Gorgona's snake population is significant. Your assigned park guide will provide a safety briefing and accompany the group throughout. Go at a pace that lets you stop and look — this is where you see the island properly.
