Getting Around

Gorgona is small — roughly 9 km long and 2.5 km wide — and movement beyond the immediate beach area happens on foot, with a guide. Park rules require all visitors to be accompanied by a guide for any trail beyond the main beach. When you check in, you are assigned a guide for the duration of your stay; they are there to protect both you and the ecosystem.

The trails are not difficult, but they are wet and slippery year-round. Boots are required and should be worn from the start of any walk. Flip-flops are fine for the beach; they will not get you anywhere else.

Boat trips around the island or to dive sites depart from the main dock when weather and tide allow. The guides coordinate these. Independent boat travel is not permitted.

All accommodation is clustered near the main dock on the island's eastern shore, a short walk from the cafeteria, the dive station, and the prison ruins. Distances are short; the island is not a place where getting around is a challenge. The challenge is getting here at all.
