Snorkeling and Diving

The waters around Gorgona are among the richest in the Colombian Pacific. The island sits where cold, nutrient-dense upwellings from the Humboldt Current meet warmer surface water, and the result is exceptional marine diversity: reef fish, sea turtles, white-tipped reef sharks, rays, eels, and, during the right months, whale sharks.

The park's dive station rents snorkeling and scuba equipment and offers certification courses through PADI-affiliated instructors. Visibility frequently exceeds 20 metres. There are dive sites for every level — shallow reefs close to shore for beginners, and deeper walls and pinnacles that reward experienced divers. The boat used for dive trips also runs general boat tours of the island's coastline, which is a good option if you want to see the sea without going under it.

Book equipment or courses at the dive station on arrival. Demand is highest during whale season (August to October), so ask early.
