When to Go

Neiva sits in the hot Magdalena River valley at 440 metres, and the climate is warm year-round — expect temperatures between 25°C and 35°C most days. The dry seasons run roughly December–February and July–August; these are the most comfortable times to visit, especially for trips to the Tatacoa Desert.

The Festival Folclórico del Bambuco in June is the city's major annual event and the best single reason to time a visit. Book accommodation well in advance if you plan to attend — the festival draws visitors from across Colombia and the city fills up.
