Chapel of Belen

Colonial hilltop chapel with panoramic city views

Built on a promontory above the city in 1681 by Juan Antonio Velasco and rebuilt after an earthquake in 1885. The chapel itself is modest, but the reason to come is the view: the white rooftops of Popayan spread out below, with green hills rising behind. It is a short, steep walk up from the centre.
