Puente del Humilladero

Puente del Humilladero is one of Popayan's most recognisable pieces of civic architecture, a long arched bridge crossing the river below the old centre. Its stone arches give it a Roman look, though the bridge belongs to the city's nineteenth-century story.

It is an easy stop while walking the historic centre. Come for the proportions, the view back toward the whitewashed town, and the sense of how Popayan handled the steep drop at the edge of its colonial core.
