The viewpoint at the top of the long staircase from the end of Calle Real is one of the most visited spots in Salento, and deservedly so. From the hilltop cross, the view encompasses the full breadth of the coffee valleys — mountain ridges stretching in all directions, farms on steep slopes, the town's colourful rooftops below, and on clear days the snowcap of Nevado del Tolima visible to the north.
The 253 steps are climbed in 10-15 minutes from the town plaza. The staircase is bamboo-railed and passes through garden terraces with flowers and coffee bushes. The viewpoint has a small kiosk selling drinks and snacks. The best light is in the morning; cloud often moves in by afternoon. The climb is the natural conclusion to a walk down Calle Real and is impossible to miss if you are in Salento.
