El Tablon, La Chaquira, La Pelota and El Purutal

Cluster of outlying San Agustin archaeological sites with carved figures, tombs, and valley views.

These outlying sites show why San Agustin is more than the main archaeological park. El Tablon, La Pelota, El Purutal, and La Chaquira spread the statues and carved figures through farmland, ridges, and viewpoints, making the landscape part of the experience.

They are best visited with local transport, a guide, or a long walk if you are fit and patient. La Chaquira is especially memorable for its position above the Magdalena valley, while La Pelota and El Purutal keep traces of paint that make the stone figures feel less remote and museum-like.
